As a child, actor Sana Khan would make her mother buy her a new purse matching her dress, every year for Eid. She would use it to keep all her Eidis (money or gifts received as blessings from elders on Eid). “My cousins and I would get ready by 10 in the morning, so that we could visit our neighbours and relatives. After all, as children, Eidi was the most important thing for us, followed by good food,” says Sana.

She adds that most of her Eid plans used to be with her best friend (Nazia Merchant). “During Eid, we would also visit each other’s houses, so that we could collect extra money. After we had [collected] enough [money], both of us would take the train or an auto rickshaw to visit Shah Rukh Khan’s house and pakao the watchman to another level with questions such as ‘Is SRK home? Can we please meet him?’ etc. He was really sweet to speak to us and used to give us autographed photos of SRK. Since I was the fan, I would also make Nazia take whatever he would give her, so that I could add them to my collection. Now, when I think of those days I feel embarrassed, more so since I am a part of the same industry,” she says, laughing.
The actor also shares that she has never been able to tell SRK about all of it. “I did an ad with him but at that time, as a fan girl, I was so mesmerised that I could not utter a word. So dumb of me!” she laughs.
Like every year, this year too, Sana has special plans for Eid. The celebration will continue for two days. Today, her close friends, who are not from the industry, would come to her house. “We will serve them sheer khurma and biryani made by my mother (Saeeda Khan). And, like every time I have put a fresh coat of paint to my house and have also decorated it. My friends love the way I deck it up,” says the actor, who has also been a part of the TV show Bigg Boss.
Tomorrow is reserved for family, as Sana’s close relatives and Nazia would be coming over and her mother would rustle up delicacies. “My mother makes the best Paya Soup in the world,” says the actor, who has gifted her mother two new dresses for Eid. “I also plan to give her a Sana-style facial at home,” she quips.
What is she wishing for, this Eid? “The purpose of Eid is to detoxify our mind and body. It also helps us inculcate good habit. I wish for the same. I wish Eid makes us a better person, makes us realise the importance of prayers and what are our responsibility towards our family and society,” she says.
