PUNE: Shreya Sanjay Nankar of Pune's Symbiosis Secondary School scored 93% marks in the secondary school certificate (SSC, std X) board exam. Shreya has been selected for Asian games to be organized in August in Jakarta, Indonesia.
Sport Climbing will be included in the Asian Games calendar for the first time in August 2018 and in Olympics in Tokyo in 2020. Shreya has been into sports climbing since she was in sixth class (2013).
"She was asked to join the selection camp on 4th April 2018, immediately after SSC Board exams were over. She had to compete with the senior established players in open category at age of 15 years to qualify to represent India in the Asian Games. Thus, she was required to go to practice daily even when her examinations were going on. She practised daily for two to three hours during 29th February to 23rd March 2018 when she appeared for the examinations also. She came with flying colours at the climbing wall. She was the top-ranked player in the selection camp and was selected to represent India in Asian Games in the Combined Event and in the Speed Relay," said the official release.
In the December 2015 Asian Youth Championship in Malaysia Shreya won the Bronze Medal in Speed Climbing at the age of 13 years. "She is the first girl to win a medal from Maharashtra. Repeating her performance in 2016 she won two Gold Medals in the Nationals at Bangaluru in the Lead Climbing and Bouldering and has been awarded Best Female Athlete of the year 2016. In 2017, she continued her performance by winning gold and silver medals at the Nationals in Indore. From the last three years, she is the backbone of the Indian Team as she represented India in the Asian Youth Championships in Malaysia, Iran, and Singapore," added the note.
