VIJAYAWADA: The phase II of the Engineering, Agriculture, and Medical Common Entrance Examination (EAMCET) counselling is likely to be held beginning from July 1st, according to sources. The document verification of the students will take place from July 1st to 4th, and is followed by students exercising options on July 5th and 6th. The college allotments will happen on July 7th.

The first phase of the counselling began on May 28th, and June 5th was when the allotments were released. Out of 89,592 convener seats, some 60,943 seats, about 68 per cent, were filled in the first phase. Another 28,649 seats were remained unfilled. Out of 1, 27,757 students qualified in the exam, some 65,909 students exercised options in the first counselling.

However, some seats out the filled ones in the first phase will be vacant because students who performed well in the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) will opt for IITs and NITs leaving behind the EAMCET seats. The JEE counselling, which began on June 15th, will end in June, and the students will have the clarity about their chances by the end of June.

Meanwhile, the managements of the private engineering colleges have been putting pressure on the government to reduce the cut-off EAMCET qualifying marks, so that more students would become eligible for the phase II counselling.
